“When I thought about what I wanted to do for the next 40 years, nothing else seemed right.”
Jennifer Rager is proud to be a registered nurse board certified in cardiology at Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
“Being a nurse was one of the clearest and easiest decisions I have ever made,” she adds. “I knew I wanted to help care for people. Nursing allows so many ways to do that and that is what I love.”
Jennifer will celebrate a huge milestone in June 2022 as she will mark her serving with our ministry for 17 years. Her passion to care for others and dedication to the ministry is inspiring.
“In my profession, my team members are people with a tremendous amount of grit.”
Jennifer loves her role as the manager of noninvasive cardiology in our Youngstown market. She finds she uses positive caregiving experiences to get herself through the difficult times.
“It’s the most rewarding when I can impact patient care directly or improve a process that positively impacts the way that patients get cared for,” Jennifer says. “Nurses need to adapt to the ever-changing world of health care to make sure we can provide the best care to our patients always.”
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to change the way patients receive medical care. However, Jennifer feels her hospital team members have shown resilience by adapting quickly.
“The nursing profession has become more demanding with the pandemic,” she shares. “With that being said, the hospital team members and nursing employees have answered the call to meet the demand of these patients and provide the care needed.”
As she reflects on her team’s efforts during these times, Jennifer says, “I’m proud of the nurses, providers and employees that have persevered. They not only stuck to providing exceptional care, but some still advanced themselves in their education, positions or own professional goals during such a trying time in health care. They were not afraid to keep going.”
