As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we want to recognize the special contribution of women in health care. One such woman is LaurieMcCann (pictured above, right), a practice manager with more than 40 years of dedication to our ministry.
Laurie’scareer with us began in 1975. She started working in medical records while still in high school. Then, she went on to study data processing and worked in that field for more than 25 years before her transition to a coding manager. And later, she transitioned to a practice manager position.
But Laurie’s contributions to health care didn’t stop there.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and hospitalizations began to rise, Laurie decided to help in the spiritual care department. She even became a certified death doula and now provides support to patients as well as their families during some of their most difficult times.
Interestingly, Laurie’s daughter, Jaymie Burtch (pictured above, left), also worked in our Defiance market. She started out in medical records at the age of 16 and has since worked in various roles, including as a patient access specialist in the emergency room. She went back to school to earn a degree in criminal justice, which eventually led to her current position as a coroner investigator for Defiance County.
We want to give special thanks to Laurie and Jaymie for their dedication to our ministry as well as the health care industry. Their commitment to excellence, lifelong learning and compassionate care is an inspiration to us all.
We are grateful for their countless contributions and for the countless other women who have made a difference in the lives of patients and families everywhere. Let’s continue to celebrate and support the women who lead the way in health care and beyond.
