Meet Nicole Bicknell, a radiology technologist and mammographer at Mercy Health – Delphos Medical Center as well as Westside and Eastside Urgent Cares!
Nicole always knew she wanted a career in health care but was not sure exactly what it would look like.
“My son was born prematurely, and he had to have an MRI of the brain and swallow study done in fluoroscopy,” Nicole shares. “It was this experience that led me to realize I wanted a career in imaging.”
As for mammography, Nicole has known since college that she wanted to learn about this field of care.
“I think it takes a certain kind of interaction to make patients feel comfortable and want to come back,” Nicole says. “I have always wanted to help people in a meaningful way. I feel like I get to do that by educating during the exam, showing kindness and empathy and addressing any concerns or questions the patient may have. I hope positive experiences will make women want to come every year for their screening and education on signs to look out for.”
Looking toward the future, Nicole is excited to continue to learn and grow in mammography.
“This field is constantly changing with new innovations to stay up to date in diagnosing breast cancer,” she states. “In fact, this year I did a ‘lunch and learn’ continuing education that discussed some of these topics. There are things in the works behind the scenes and I know our facility will want to implement the most up-to-date technology for our patients whenever it may become approved and available. I would love to be involved or able to perform some of those technologies eventually.”
Outside of work, Nicole enjoys spending time with her husband and son. She and her husband like going to comedy shows, OSU football games, watching their son play sports and watching UFC fights.
