Leadership and new name announced for combined ministry
When Bon Secours and Mercy Health merge this fall, it will be under the direction of current Mercy Health president and CEO, John Starcher. Leaders from both organizations announced today that Starcher will take on the role as president and CEO of the new organization.
“Our new ministry has an exciting future before it,” Starcher said. “It is positioned to be more successful than Mercy Health and Bon Secours could ever be as separate entities. We will expand our services and programs, provide greater access in our markets to help and serve more people.”
Once combined, the two entities will create one of the five largest Catholic health care systems in the nation, with more than 57,000 employees and more than 1,000 sites of care.
It was also announced today that the combined ministry’s new name will be Bon Secours Mercy Health. However, because both Bon Secours and Mercy Health have strong brand equity and name recognition in the communities they serve, current names and brands will continue to be used in signage, uniforms and facilities. This means that next time you visit a Mercy Health facility, you can expect it to look and feel like it always does.
Together, the combined ministry will be able to better leverage resources and teams, deepening its commitment to the communities we serve, while expanding services across the United States.
Bon Secours President and CEO Rich Statuto will serve Bon Secours Mercy Health as an advisor for the next year. After 13 years as president and CEO of Bon Secours and 24 years as the CEO of a large health care system, he will retire in 2019. In 2017, the Catholic Health Association rewarded him the Sister Concilia Moran Award to recognize his contributions to Catholic health care.
“I am confident in John’s ability to lead Bon Secours Mercy Health as we combine our health care ministries to form a new organization,” Statuto said. “I have committed to helping over the course of the next year to ensure a robust start for Bon Secours Mercy Health as we bring together two incredibly strong organizations. John and I have been working closely throughout this process and we are both fully committed to ensuring a smooth transition.”
